Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) as well as Chris Watson (born in Paris). At the age of five years old and moved to Oxfordshire and enrolled in an Oxfordshire-based Dragon School. Emma decided to be an actor at age six. Through the years she was enrolled in the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. There she learned singing, dancing and acting. When she was 10, she had already taken part in numerous Stagecoach productions and plays. Casting began in 1999 to cast Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was identified by casting agents through Emma's Oxford theatre instructor. David Heyman told Emma along together with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe that they had all been through 8 consecutive auditions. Emma's debut film appearance came as a part of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the year 2001. The most successful film of 2001 it set new records for its debut day sales as well as opening weekend takings. Critics have praised both the film, as well as the performances by the three young actors. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her performance. Emma received five nominations for her impressive performance. In the end, she received the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actress of a Film.
